When a U.S. passenger plane is seized by vicious hijackers and taken to Beirut, the president calls in The Delta Forcea crack team of commandos led by Colonel Nick Alexander (Marvin) and Major Scott McCoy (Norris). Against all odds, the men blast into the compound andtaking no prisonersrescue the hostages. But the mission is not yet over. While political incorrectness still had a few decades left to live, Arab terrorists, with Chuck present, had only a few hours left. There are two different tones. First, a fairly authentic kidnapping segment referencing the TWA Flight 847 events (selection of passengers based on Jewish-sounding names, the death of a US Navy diver), and then the activities of the fearless Major McCoy, who waits by the TV at 2:30 AM for a signal. The red-haired Charon transports half of Lebanon while refusing even a coin for his incorruptibility, his motorcycle's exhaust belches deadly rockets, and Alan Silvestri's synth disco plays oddly in the background. While Lee Marvin realized how his action career paled in comparison to this and wisely retired, the extra Neeson could save himself for future roles and learn how to handle missions faster than the lengthy 96 Hours.
