English We spend the whole film wondering why a child dying of hunger doesn’t want to eat. And there is no aspect of mystery. The subject is unexciting and quite banal, but it makes sense dramaturgically in the end, however slight it may be for the viewer. The Wonder is based on a novel that the filmmakers didn’t want to upgrade in the film adaptation. Florence Pugh is good as usual, but she has better opportunities elsewhere. ()

English The bleak setting of an isolated Irish house amidst the moors creates a fantastic atmosphere for this film. This kind of setting is exactly what I love in stories. Add Florence Pugh, who I've been seeing a lot of lately — and I'm not complaining. The plot is very quiet, the pacing quite artful, and by the time you fully grasp what's happening, the film is nearly over. Interestingly, I found the ending to be the best part, especially compared to the rather slow-moving film overall. ()
