Rescued by Ruby

Sure, it’s nothing groundbreaking — there have been plenty of stories about the K9 unit. But when done right, it’s hard to go wrong. This is a sweet family film that pleasantly surprised me with how enjoyable it was to watch. Yes, it has that Hallmark feel, but it’s an incredibly charming Hallmark feel, and if all family movies had this kind of warmth and atmosphere, I wouldn’t complain. The fourth star came from the film’s ending and the closing credits, which reveal that this story is based on real events. Plus, it’s all for a good cause. Ruby is a true hero. (04/04/2022)

Rescued by Ruby doesn't really stand out from other films like it, except perhaps for the fact that even though it has a canine protagonist, it doesn't try to play on emotions. In terms of content and form, this is a made-for-TV movie for just one viewing, but it’s nevertheless told in an endearing way. You follow the story of a policeman and a dog who actually save each other's lives, without any unnecessary pathos. (01/15/2023)
