A man rides a horse across the desert that separates him from Bitter Creek. He comes to visit Sheriff Jake. Twenty-five years earlier, both the sheriff and Silva, the rancher who rides out to meet him, worked together as hired gunmen. Silva visits him with the excuse of reuniting with his friend from his youth, and they do indeed celebrate their meeting, but the next morning Sheriff Jake tells him that the reason for his trip is not to go down the memory lane of their old friendship. Guns? Not at all... Sheriff Ethan Hawke has his pants pulled down way too low! And the audience is kept in suspense, wondering whether Pedro Pascal's back door opened for a handful of dollars, for a few extra bucks, out of love, out of self-interest, or because of his "chiropractic" experience with an old colleague. Pedro Almodóvar has tried out many genres in short films, so why not return to his old flirtation with taming a mountain? The result is a brevity fueled by length, which has turned the tale from the Pink West into a triviality with an unintended comedic touch. Perhaps that's why the poster looks like it’s from an Urban Adventurers film.
