Tender and violent, terrifying and comic, The English takes the arrows and bullets of its genre only to twist them into a uniquely compelling parable on gender, race, love and power. It is a high-octane chase romance in which an Englishwoman, Cornelia Locke (Emily Blunt) and an American Indian, Eli Whipp (Chaske Spencer), come together to cross a barren and tumultuously violent mythic-landscape of 1890 Mid-America in order to right the horrifying wrongs of an unexpectedly shared past. Beautiful miniseries, which refers to the most beautiful period westerns and brings something extra. Gorgeous music led by the opening theme, fantastic performances by Emily Blunt, Chaske Spencer and actually everyone who appears in the story. Everyone here has their place, everyone presents their life fate. It's a shame that the story is sometimes unnecessarily complicated and confused, or that some dialogues here seem too philosophical and artistic. Cinematically, it's also refined here. Some shots would deserve eternity for how beautiful they are. Similarly, some scenes that will probably be etched in my memory forever (photography, final scene in episode 5). Well, what can I tell you. Anyone who loves cinematography must see this story.
