A small Eskimo boy comes drifting on an iceberg to a superstitious settlement in northern Iceland and is believed, by his strange looks, to be an emissary of the devil and the cause of the hardship brought on by a severe winter. When the boy makes friends with the priest's son, he proves to be a blessing rather than a curse and the villagers are forced to reconsider their beliefs and prejudices.
