A tedious, drawn-out borefest. A young couple move into a new house and they discover a collection of letters from a previous owner who lived there decades ago. Together with their friends, they read them night after night, gradually learning about the dark past, and some hauntings occur. The idea is downright stale, the acting in The Mistress is unremarkable, there's no atmosphere, scares, suspense or any sign of horror at all, and the only thing worth mentioning that breaks out of the linear plot without any kind of build-up, fear for character or fun is the attempt at some kind of "twist" at the end. It works fine, but it certainly doesn't save the film. A completely pointless borefest that I would have skipped without regrets and gone on to do something more meaningful... like stare at the wall.
