Please Turn Over

My latest trip to the 1950s, this time to 1959, turned out better than I initially feared. At first, I was seriously concerned because the plot relied heavily on situational humor, which seemed more awkward than funny. However, as the movie progressed, the humor shifted to witty dialogue, and I found myself genuinely entertained. While the theme may feel a bit overdone today, it was probably quite fresh when the film was released. I really enjoyed the cast, but despite the filmmakers' best efforts, the moments that made me laugh the most were when Blanche was running through the parks, uncovering the town’s oddities. It cracked me up when she emerged from the meticulously maintained greenery looking like a trench warfare veteran, only to appear perfectly groomed in the next scene, then revert to her disheveled state. That was brilliant! Despite its numerous flaws, the film put me in a good mood, so I’m giving it a solid three stars. / Lesson learned: Develop your talent. (07/05/2024)
