Cold Case stars Kathryn Morris (Minority Report, Mindhunters) as Lilly Rush, the lone female detective in the Philadelphia homicide squad who finds her calling when she's assigned to "cold cases" -- crimes that have never been solved. Previously, she used her instinctive understanding of the criminal mind on current murders. Now, she's interrogating witnesses whose lives and circumstances have since changed, making use of today's new science and finding fresh clues to solve cases that were previously unsolvable, all of which appeals to this smart, driven detective. She's also prepared for the consequences: that her work will open up old wounds and may lead suspects to commit new crimes. When she hits a dead-end, Lilly seeks advice from her respected mentor, Lt. John Stillman (John Finn, Catch Me If You Can). Also on the team are Det. Scotty Valens (Danny Pino, The Shield), Rush's confident and strong-willed partner; Det. Will Jeffries (Thom Barry, The Fast and the Furious), who's been around long enough to serve as Lilly's link to the past; and Det. Nick Vera (Jeremy Ratchford, Angel Eyes), a tough cop who's considered the go-to guy for getting a confession. (official distributor synopsis)

English I'm enjoying this series a lot, not only do the episodes go by quite briskly, but they're always spiced up with great music and can be very moving, plus the editing is very good. Of course, it's the same thing over and over again – interrogating, denying, lying, questioning, and revealing the truth, and you can always tell when they've finally got the right guy. Still, I enjoyed a lot of the episodes and the fact is that I've seen almost all of them. ()

English I'm flirting with the idea of watching the complete series. The guest stars are all interesting people, including Vicky Pratt, and the stories are often gripping little TV dramas. Kathryn Morris is, of course, supremely likable and completely different than she was in Xena. ()

English I don't know what it is, but there's just a certain aura of novelty and originality that emanates from this series that almost always gets me and makes me watch the screen as intently as a child watches a lollipop. All the episodes are practically following one basic template, something that drives me crazy with some shows, but here it feels like a plain and ready-made thing. And there's still room to deal with the main characters' personal problems. I really like the transitions between periods - how often the creators take care of the appearance of people, how they can create a great artificial period atmosphere with clothes and music, etc. It's just a classy series that has won my sympathy and so far I doubt it will ever stop entertaining me. P.S. I also love the great endings, accompanied only by cutscenes and music. ()
