What led a former top scientist to an armed robbery of a bank in which he is holding a dozen hostages? Czech Television's crime thriller based on Martin Goffa's novel "The Girl" is confined to two environments - the interior of the robbed bank with hostages and the interior of a crisis management vehicle, from where police officers communicate with the mysterious attacker and try, like him, to play for time and find out more about him. At the same time, the story of the attacker's daughter, Karin, from the recent past is told in flashbacks, gradually revealing a connection with what is happening in the current storyline. English "Revenge is mine," said the professor, or in other words, this wouldn’t have happened under the communists. Even Labrosse would eventually understand that hostages wouldn’t be freed and idiots wouldn’t be arrested in the bank. The script occasionally gives the actors unmanageable material, public reminiscences are complemented by sentimental musical songs, and if negotiator Kevin Spacey had shown up, he’d toss his badge in the trash and shamefully head to the park to feed the pigeons. Of course, there’s no shortage of system criticism, judicial power, police forces, monstrous politicians, and sewn-on penises. And the drugs? Well, Vinklář isn’t around anymore to deal with it like he did back in Karlovy Vary when ants brought the end! By the way, those who dislike the “terribly shaky, zoomed-in, hyped-up, swaying, unwatchable camera” can occasionally close their eyes and imagine that Bruce Willis is directing the police operation.
