Shecky Moskowitz is a struggling comedian who gets a job as a waiter on the cruise ship that is holding the Miss Universe competition. Shecky is spending the voyage in the shadow of the ship's comedian Dickie Diamond, who is getting all the girls and won't even let Shecky perform as his warm-up act. This is terrible, but what can you do? I think the negative reactions to this film are perhaps just because it's Adam Sandler's first work. It must be said, however, that this really didn't work. The stand-up jokes are quite terrible, and it's not really funny at all, just like the overall story which unpleasantly disintegrates into individual silly gags. You'd never have imagined what this curly-haired boy would grow up to be.
