Plots(1)

Gracie Thompson hasn't been so much brought up as dragged through life by her manipulative, drug-addled mother. Missing meals, dodging cops and landlords, changing schools the way most kids change socks, Gracie and her sister and brothers, each the product of a different dead-beat dad, seem to have hit the skids. Then Gracie makes a choice to get a job, succeed in school, find stability. And her choice isn't just for herself. At the age of 17, she decides to be the mother, emotionally and legally, her siblings never had. (official distributor synopsis)

English At first, this feels like one of those low-budget American dramas from the early 2000s, with a Hallmark movie vibe. But as the story unfolds, Kristen Bell really steps up, and thanks to her performance, I actually enjoyed seeing it through to the end. ()

English Excessive attempts to appeal to the viewer's emotions and a one-sided view of the whole matter do this film a disservice. While the subject and cast look promising, this waste of potential hurts all the more. (60%) ()
