The story takes place in 1943-1944. Tenth-grader Yura Nikitin learns that his father has been killed at the front. He enters an infantry school. Once, during a break between classes, he and his friend Senya happen to visit a girl called Zoya, who they have both liked for a while. Yura and Zoya fall in love with each other. However, soon the cadets will be sent to the front to join the Soviet troops. (Moscow International Film Festival)
