A sensitive drama set in an English secondary school. Laurence Olivier as the teacher Weir is constantly denigrated by his ambitious wife. On a school trip to Paris, a schoolgirl visits him in his room. While the teacher is in search of understanding, she is looking for her first love. The girl is not willing to accept rejection or the ridiculousness of the age gap between them. In a desire to have revenge for her broken heart, she decides to ruin her teacher's life.
