Iskender is a juggler. Actually he is a magician but everybody except himself and his childhood friend Maradona, thinks he is a juggler. The two friends are forced to escape from Istanbul and undertake a great deal of risk by including Iskender's father Sait to their plan. Moreover Father Sait had quit appreciating Iskender years ago. While the tour makes them come much closer, it also results in a magnificent fall-out. Iskender, Maradona and Sait keep coming back together and falling out with their fellow traveller Fatma. English Two small-town Copperfields in comically ugly track suits, with a militant grandfather at their throats and Coke-bottle glasses, experience a crucial tour in their would-be careers as illusionists. Such a subject sounds promising, but it unfortunately doesn’t turn out to be a crazy, albeit stupid, comedy. The Magician is an unbearably drawn-out road movie without any rhythm, without a single unpredictable joke. Furthermore, it is marred by a lot of amateurish mistakes (during head-on shots, the car is almost always missing the caravan in the back). The Magician is further evidence to support my hypothesis that Turkish films are either great (Fog and Night, Three Monkeys) or absolutely terrible (Turkish Star Wars, Killing the Shadows). 40% ()
