English Over the course of a single evening, two idiots like from a von Trier film formulate and execute a plan that would have taken the protagonist of Prison Break half a year. At that point, it became apparent that something was not right with this film. It takes an overly cinematic view of the world and misses the relevant “details” that make life authentic. The psychology of the characters does not work at all: how are we supposed to acknowledge the pure heart of an aggressive individual for whom no moral imperatives apply, but who – to the viewer’s confusion – sometimes behaves in an absolutely logical manner? Being a malicious cynic, I watched Pure Hearts as a comedy. A comedy as cold as the huckles on a casket. In the end, this film about the love of film paradoxically serves primarily as evidence that films are hazardous to one’s health. And that doesn’t necessarily refer to refined romantic movies from the 1940s, which Kenneth Kainz would clearly have been better suited to direct. Unfortunately, the Dane’s time has passed. 50% ()
