In the first Jesse Stone movie to deviate from Robert Parkers novels and take the character in exciting new directions, Tom Selleck portrays the small-town police chief with the usual good humor Stone fans know and love-but also with a heavy heart and a heightened desire for justice following the attempted murder of his close friend, the captain. English It might not be ideal to start somewhere in the middle of a series, but one film was enough for me to know that Tom Selleck, in the role of a tough, no-nonsense police chief, comes across naturally even without boxer shorts, and I believe him, even when he's wearing a PPD hat and making Scottish PP. It can be assumed that the slightly melancholic tone, which clashes with the TV format and the fluctuating appeal of the criminal cases, is a characteristic of other Stones lost in Paradise as well.
