On a late 19th-century estate, a celebration of wine and beer lets loose inhibitions and innerpassions. I don't remember the last time I saw a film where you could hear the pages of the script rustling so loudly. The concept is interesting, but the screenplay is not. What good are the performances of the actors when their characters only alternate heartfelt confessions with vulgar attempts to humiliate each other? And I won't forgive Mike Figgis for ruining the strongest scene of the film with a split image. An adaptation of a stage play that is inventive, but not in a good way.
