English "The tragedy of women is that each of them ultimately resembles her mother.” (Oscar Wilde) The study of the consequences of blurred boundaries between leniency and neglect results in fairly natural dialogues (especially Jana Brejchová and her bus driver lover shifting into reverse), but also a lot of narrative lethargy, which was presumably meant to be interrupted by Petra Janů’s piercing singing. The climax, with its long minutes of suffering, a few slaps, and a hint of resolution, didn’t quite fit with the preceding events. I don’t know what it was, but Pavel Rímský’s investigator somehow reminded me of Tommy Lee Jones. ()
