Adapted from W. Somerset Maugham's short story about sex, sin, and salvation, Rain tells the story of prostitute Sadie Thompson (Joan Crawford) who, along with the other passengers aboard a steamer, is let off on the Samoan island of Pago Pago after a small epidemic erupts on board. Sadie immediately attracts the lustful attention of the American soldiers stationed there, but she also draws the genuine affection of Sergeant Tim O'Hara (William Gargan), who at first is unaware of her occupation. Hoping to show Sadie the error of her ways and cleanse her of her sins is Rev. Alfred Davidson (Walter Huston), a Bible thumping preacher resolute in his quest to lead soldiers to salvation. As Rev. Davidson attempts to deliver Sadie from evil, he discovers that he's being led into temptation. (Echo Bridge Entertainment)
