An old king calls for his cook Jiřík to prepare a fish that no one else may taste under threat of the headman's sword. Jiřík's curiosity is greater than his fear of punishment, so he eats a piece of the fish despite the kings orders. He immediately finds that he can understand the languages of the animal world. But Jiřík's offense is discovered by the king himself and instead of executing the young man he sends him out to bring back a maiden with golden hair, who they've both overheard the birds talking about, for his bride. In order to obtain the king's future bride, Jiřík must fulfill three wishes. But what happens when Jiřík and Goldilocks fall in love? (Zlín Film Festival)

English A nice, if sometimes very naive fairy tale that I loved as a child. A beautiful princess, an ugly king, but also another, fairly kind but cunning king portrayed by the excellent Ladislav Pešek. And then there's Jiřík, whom you forgive even though he doesn't try too hard with his tasks. For a child, it has a slightly horror-like feel. I was always terrified of that snake. ()
