Pierce Brosnan as Philip, middle-aged English widower and estranged single father living in Denmark, and Trine Dyrholm as Ida, a Danish hairdresser recuperating from chemotherapy, who has just learned that her husband is leaving her for a woman half his age from his accounts department. The fates of these two bruised souls intertwine as they embark for Italy to attend the wedding of his son, Patrick, to her daughter, Astrid. The bumpy path towards the union of their children, and the clashes and faux pas of their wedding guests, force Philip and Ida to reevaluate all their notions of family, love and happiness.
