Janet spent her 11th birthday watching her father being stabbed to death by her insane mother. Can you imagine what a thing like that can do to a child? Now, aged 17, she suffers from nightmares so intense that her teachers fear for her sanity and decide that the best plan of action is to return her to the family home. But, the familiar surroundings only help to accentuate her night terrors. Janet fears that she is going mad - and if the disturbing visions aren’t traumatic enough, how will she survive a birthday party with a cake and a very large knife? Boasting a screenplay by Hammer psycho-thriller specialist Jimmy Sangster that, according to The Daily mail, guarantees audiences “One long scream!” Nightmare is an eerie, atmospheric chiller that lays shock upon shock and twist upon twist right up to its breathless climax.
