Accomplished pianist Kate is diagnosed with incurable disease ALS and hires a directionless young woman, Bec, who becomes her full-time caregiver. The two form a life changing bond inspiring each other to live life to the fullest. Kate (Hilary Swank) is a suave, successful classical pianist just diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). Bec (Emmy Rossum) is a brash college student and would-be rock singer who can barely keep her wildly chaotic affairs, romantic and otherwise, together. Yet, when Bec takes a job assisting Kate, just as Kate's marriage to Evan (Josh Duhamel) hits the skids, both women come to rely on what becomes an unconventional, sometimes confrontational and fiercely honest bond. As meticulous, willful Kate begins to rub off on whirlwind, spontaneous Bec - and vice versa - both women find themselves facing down regrets, exploring new territory and expanding their ideas of who they want to be. I like these stories. Two completely different human souls meet in order to help each other mentally and also to take a break from the outside world, which has certainly made them very tired. And the fact that they are connected by an illness of one of them is, unfortunately, sad, but in such a story you need to rather look for the positives, which the movie has provided. And to that, it added great acting performances so it was immediately on its way to create a great movie experience.

Hilary Swank's incredible performance adorns this film. Emmy Rossum isn't far behind, but Hilary is simply captivating in her tragic role as a woman dying from ALS. At least here you see what the Ice Bucket Challenge is actually meant to support. The film itself has a clear plot that is well-structured and aims to engage the viewer through a tragic fate. Without the excellent actresses and the awareness of this terrible disease, it probably wouldn't have much artistic significance.
