The Kings of Summer is a unique coming-of-age comedy about three teenage friends - Joe (Nick Robinson), Patrick (Gabriel Basso) and the eccentric and unpredictable Biaggio (Moises Arias) - who, in the ultimate act of independence, decide to spend their summer building a house in the woods and living off the land. Free from their parents' rules, their idyllic summer quickly becomes a test of friendship as each boy learns to appreciate the fact that family - whether it is the one you're born into or the one you create - is something you can't run away from. English To be honest, there were quite a few things that objectively bothered me in this film (the first one of which, in my opinion, are the not very convincing child actors – the boys in Jeff Nichols’s Mud were much better), but it does have something that charmed me. A nice indie thing. ()

English Stunningly idiotic, as only adolescence can be. Bonus appreciation for the uncharacteristically but realistically contained romantic storyline. ()

English Exactly the type of film that is popular right now. Indie dramedies that flow at their own leisurely pace may not appeal to everyone, but generally, it's not a big issue. It's not exactly hilarious if you're looking to really laugh, but it has its charm. This is an attempt to go a slightly different route compared to typical adult-oriented films. The movie is good; it's inventive, has interesting scenes and intriguing characters, and Biaggio is absolutely excellent. It's not very funny and is quite serious, but I like films that can blend the modern world with nature without feeling like unnecessary propaganda. ()
