An animated sci-fi film by Jiří Trnka? Yes, indeed it is. Trnka showcases animation mastery complemented by a strange, depressive story that truly has horror elements, giving you chills. While Trnka had a cybernetic grandmother, Lynch soon planted and grew her (or actually had her in organic form). A certain generational frustration has culminated in many projects on a similar theme, these being the most pressing. Freud would be happy for all of us. (08/17/2015)
