Man, Pride & Vengeance

One fiery, passionate Gypsy woman is enough to make a naive young officer lose his dignity. Ignoring her stern warnings, he falls into passion, becomes jealous, and crosses Rubicons. Despite his revulsion, calling her names like "whore" and "dirty slut," he can’t easily command the little constable hidden under the bonnet. Prosper Mérimée's tale of the Wild West of the old continent provides an interesting take on western clichés. It even features a final duel, where one side is armed with slaps and a knife, and the other with brutal honesty and contempt. Who will come out more wounded? I’d sum it up with a saying from an unknown author that best captures the essence in its original form: "The dildo of consequences rarely arrives lubed." (09/25/2023)
