Anna Nicole Smith was a single mother from Texas who became the biggest supermodel in the world, but her sudden catapult to fame and fortune came with a price, as drugs, alcohol and reckless behavior led her down a tragic path. ANNA NICOLE follows the swift rise and fall of Vickie Lynn Hogan, a Texas high school dropout and single mother with dreams of a better life. Realizing the power of her beauty, Vickie accepts a job as a dancer at topless bar, where she changes her name to Anna Nicole Smith and first makes her mark. With a new persona and a shocking marriage to octogenarian millionaire J. Howard Marshall, Anna's career blasts off when Playboy features her in a pictorial spread that evokes comparisons to Marilyn Monroe. But after her husband's death, Anna's financial support ends and her hard-partying ways, excessive drinking, drastic weight fluctuation and endless pill-popping take their toll, inevitably setting the stage for the fading starlet's tragic descent. English I was expecting a controversial biographical drama, but I was a bit confused by the label that it's a made-for-TV movie. When it comes to filmmaking, television can indeed be quite conservative. What I was expecting came to pass. The life of Anna Nicole Smith is portrayed averagely, sometimes quite boringly, and it fails to capture significantly why she became such a celebrity. This is just a story about one girl who perhaps couldn't even help becoming what she became. It's as if any controversy has been banned. The film is at times overly beautiful; there's nothing really ugly here. The visuals spoil it all and turn it into a spectacle, which this film definitely is not. ()
