This movie is set in the year 2012 and follows a ten and a half year old gang of four thieves who haven't been caught yet. With the woman who takes care of them, they make a pseudo-family that pretends to have a successful business abroad. Hwayi, their son they kidnapped during a robbery in 1998, is haunted by a vision of a monster figure since he was a child. After Hwayi grows up, he falls in love for the first time and begins to notice how different his life is from the life of other teenagers. The gang teaches him their special abilities and prepare him for his first mission. But then, his past finally reaches him and he is compelled to face it. (Filmasia)

English For me, exactly on the border between three and four stars. Technically it’s very good, with decent action, but I felt the script has an overly complicated structure and that it communicates pretty confusingly with the viewer at times. And all that wannabe psychological crap like “To defeat the monster we must become a monster” was really annoying by the end. 7/10 ()

English My most anticipated film of the year has finally received English language support! This is the perfect portrayal of a teenage traumatic upbringing of five fathers of thugs. Hwayi: A Monster Boy is hyper-actively stylish and ultra-violent!! I stress the word violent once again! This film features more gore than any horror film in the last two years! It's a very uncompromising over the top ride that will wipe the eyes of even the most hardcore fans. This has no competition, this is definitely the clear winner in the action/thriller genre for the last decade. The warehouse scene is such carnage I thought I was going to explode like a red-hot boiler. I fully recommend it! ()
