Jean Gabin displays his mastery here, as well as his casual stance which you easily warm up to, just like his romantic demeanor. However, the film itself is not that unique; it simply captures the setting and relationships between the characters exceptionally well. The fatal ending then seems inevitable, and one ends up thinking about what can be done out of love, or rather, its loss. ()
