On the night Ronia was born a thunderstorm raged over the mountains. But Matt, who was beside himself with joy over his daughter, hardly even noticed the storm. His line would live on, but Borka's life would be finished and done for. Borka! The arch enemy, just as Borka's father and grandfather had been the arch enemies of Matt's father and grandfather. But on the night Ronia was born Borka's wife gave birth t a son. Ronia learns to leap and dance and shout with the other robbers, but she feels truly at home all alone in Matt's woods.
