Memoir of a Murderer

I thoroughly enjoyed this one. The already precise and unconventional idea was translated to the screen even better than I could have imagined in my ideal vision. First and foremost, my praise must go to the main character. The actor who portrays a former serial killer suffering from memory loss and dementia due to a car accident performed incredibly well. In the most intense emotional scenes, I believed every grimace and every action of his. An excellent performance. On the other side of the barricade, the audience also gets their due; the main antagonist is a cunning and silent bastard through and through. The tension throughout the film builds up until it culminates in a massive explosion in the final resolution at the cabin, where you also get to see the actual fight (while the film doesn’t offer much in terms of action, believe me, this cold and pessimistic spectacle can captivate you like few others). Additionally, I must point out another aspect: a few moments in the film will make you think one thing, only to reveal later that it was merely the protagonist's imagination and nothing like that happened in the real world. This brings me to the final thought: Did the ending happen exactly as shown? That’s something each person must answer for themselves. For me, it gets 85%. (10/07/2020)

Won Sin-Yeon, the director of the thriller A Bloody Aria and the awesome actioner The Suspect, comes up with the best thriller Korea has produced this year. The story follows a serial killer who has been a bloody rampage from a young age, targeting mostly deserving people, which I don't blame him for. In a car accident where he suffers a head injury, which that causes him to black out, he has to stop the blood spree and only has time to devote to his beloved daughter until a second serial killer starts running rampant in town, who accidentally starts dating his daughter. I found the great duel between two serial killers very original, so far I've seen killer vs cop, but this time it's different and it adds an incredible edge to the film, and the face to face encounters are some of the best. The film has plenty of suspense, is perfectly shot, well acted, has some great sequences, they just skimp a bit on the violence, which is the only major criticism, but otherwise a great thriller culminating in a nerve wracking duel in a cabin. I was biting my teeth all through the film. Nice surprise 80% (10/22/2017)
