Created by Danny McBride and Jody Hill (co-creators of HBO's Eastbound & Down), this dark comedy series tells the story of a southern suburban high school and the two people who almost run it, the vice principals. McBride and Walton Goggins star as Neal Gamby and Lee Russell, a pair of ambitious administrators waged in an epic power struggle to ascend to the top spot after the long-time principal (Bill Murray) steps down to tend to his ailing wife. When Dr. Belinda Brown (Kimberly Hebert Gregory) swoops in to claim the job, Gamby and Russell put their mutual disdain aside and, operating by the adage that "the enemy of my enemy is my friend," team up for an all-out, take-no-prisoners effort to bring down Dr. Brown, the only person who may in fact have the school's best interests at heart. Season 1 (2016) (S01)

English I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this so much. The only thing that surprised me was the turning point that came in the seventh episode when a completely undemanding comedy became a comedy-drama with elements of a thriller in later episodes. The two "heroes" were well-written and, thanks to Danny McBride and Walton Goggins, well-acted. I'm curious to see how the second season will manage to pick up where the first one left off. ()

A Trusty Steed (2016) (S01E02)

English This series is a light and enjoyable watch. It's perfect for unwinding and having a good laugh. Gamby and Russell's antics at the principal's house were absolutely hilarious. ()

The Field Trip (2016) (S01E03)

English The third episode had me laughing a lot. It was so straightforward and awkward that it ended up being hilariously funny. I managed to silence that annoying intellectual side of me and just enjoyed the ride. ()

The Good Book (2016) (S01E07)

English There were definitely some laughs, but this episode felt a bit like a family day special. Not that it's a bad thing — if it were a typical American movie, I'd be drowning in sentimentality. While they did cross the line a few times, it wasn't in bad taste. Overall, it was still enjoyable. ()

Gin (2016) (S01E08)

English I'm starting to think the shift in the last episode wasn't just a one-off. It seems the creators are intentionally adding a new layer to the series. I'm still on the fence about it – I kind of preferred when it was just straightforward comedy. The new, deeper moments sometimes feel a bit off to me. That said, Belinda Brown's rampage was absolutely fantastic. ()

End of the Line (2016) (S01E09)

English The finale of the first season delivered, even though the show should now be labeled as a comedy/drama/thriller. I had a great time watching, and the ending was left open in a way that ensures I won’t miss the second season. ()
