Plots(1)
A film that is also an admonition: stories of everyday life during World War II to remember "that this is what happened". Rai (Paradise) is a feature-length film on the intersecting destinies of three characters during the sad times of a war without precedent: Olga, an aristocratic Russian émigré now a member of the French Résistance; Jules, a French collaborator; Helmut, a high-ranking SS officer. The meaning of the film is perfectly expressed in a quote from German philosopher Karl Jaspers: "What happened is a warning. It must be continually remembered. Just as it was possible for it to happen once, it remains possible for it to happen again, at any moment. Only the knowledge of what took place can prevent it from happening again". Against the tragic background of the concentration camps, the motto is "every life has its own meaning". (Venice International Film Festival)
