English I quite liked the beginning, the best part was probably the joke with Madonna and Maradona, but after the first promising quarter-hour, it turned into quite a mess, and the humor was sometimes completely lost while watching it. Some situations bordered on the awkward, especially the more dramatic scenes with the monkey. Perhaps only the dance interlude from the club with some pretty good music still entertained me. I hesitated between two or three stars, but there was too much stupid stuff in the film for my taste. ()

English Abrakadabra is a bit of a scriptwriter’s wild ride. Right off the bat, we’re introduced to Carlos — a loud, beer-guzzling couch potato who’s obsessed with Real Madrid and never misses a match. He’s the kind of guy who gets downright obnoxious when his team botches a scoring chance, the classic “love to hate” type. Then, out of nowhere, the spirit of a killer takes over his body, and suddenly the movie shifts gears. The crude humor that hooked you at the start starts to fade, and you’re left wondering what exactly this film wants to be. It’s not bad, but it’s not quite a comedy either. So what is it? ()
