Ghoulies II is simply part of a trend that existed in American horror at that time. It's a film that wants to be funny but at the same time pretends to be serious. Neither side stands out, and the film becomes incredibly ordinary, leaving you without a proper understanding of why you're watching it, let alone why it was even made. But there it is: a loud film that gives you nothing.
