English John Carroll Lynch surprised me in a great way. He directs his debut film with sensitivity and humour, creating an almost philosophic work that offers different possible interpretations. With so many symbolic scenes punctuating the storyline, each viewer will have their own understanding and find their holy grail. Lucky can be about old age, about life, about death, about missed opportunities – and, most probably, about all of that. Who knows. Lucky will get under your skin. It got me for sure. The great David Lynch in the secondary role moved me greatly. However the star is, of course, Harry Dean Stanton; this is his swan song and one of the best filmic farewells ever. Let’s welcome that with a smile! [KVIFF 2018] ()

English An old man chattering about nothing in particular rather than about life. Lucky offers likable characters and an attractive environment, but both are underused. And Lynch spouts one inanity after another, without adding another dimension to the film by linking it to the motifs of his works. I can imagine a more atmospheric, poetic and meaningful version by Jim Jarmusch, for example. And that’s a great idea. ()

English Lucky really struck me. It's amazing that Harry was given the opportunity to end his amazing career with such a beautiful dot – many other acting aces can only envy him quietly. The film is full of symbols – if it resonates with you and you tune into its wave, it will stick in your mind for a long time and you will often ponder it. There is something interesting about all the characters, each has a clearly defined place and meaning in the story. Fans will also be delighted by the supporting roles for many film icons, led by David Lynch in his greatest acting role. A thought-provoking and emotionally rich film that moved me several times, entertained me many times and completely captivated me. It is thanks to films like Lucky that I am a film fan. Thanks to everyone involved for this amazing film, and above all, thank you to Harry for his lifelong contribution to world cinema – your mark is indelible. ()
