Guns Akimbo

A video game-like, punk, stylish and brutal coke-fuelled ride! Daniel Radcliffe wakes up with guns nailed to his hands and finds himself in a death-match against Nix, the ultimate female assassin (a great Samara Weaving, again in a completely different but excellent role). It's a very enjoyable guilty pleasure that sets a fast pace right from the start, the characters are properly wacky, blood is not spared, the jokes work and surprisingly it's not as silly as it might first appear. Good fun with video game references. 7/10. (03/03/2020)

You have already seen Daniel Radcliff cast spells, grow horns, let the winds blow on an island, and get lost in a jungle, and now you have a chance to see him running around the city in his underwear and slippers and firing pistols nailed to his hands because he is an internet troll dragged into a life and death game. This is a high-octane breakneck and R-rated comedy version of the now few-years-old Nerve which takes on the ills of the modern internet generation and is quite entertaining nonsense. Sometimes I have a problem with movies that try to be all meta and make fun of clichés in action films, despite later clinging onto those same clichés themselves. A very gritty and crazy romp in which Daniel Radcliffe fights against a bunch of crazy killers led by Samara Weaving. It's full of blood and black humour, but once it slows down a bit, it turns out that it actually has very little to offer in the non-action scenes. (03/19/2020)

A playfully shot action ride featuring Daniel Radcliffe as a loser running around town with guns bolted to his hands, trying to escape and ideally take down his opponent in a brutal and bloodthirsty online game that's all the rage in this crazy world. It's a funny, entertaining, and delightfully bloody flick – reminiscent of Kick-Ass in some ways – that doesn't take itself seriously and packs a solid punch. I love these kinds of movies, so I'd be up for a sequel in a few years. Jason Lei Howden impressed me with his debut, Deathgasm, and he proves his talent again with this film – let's just hope he keeps the momentum going with his next project. (12/31/2019)

Absolute madness that might give you an epileptic seizure due to the excessive cuts and color changes, so be warned. No, seriously now. It seems to me that Daniel Radcliffe has been picking interesting film projects lately. I mean, who would come up with the idea of a main character waking up with guns mechanically attached to his hands? Seriously, who thought of that? In the end, the viewer might be entertained, provided they don't expect much from the film. I'm curious about the film's budget because, at one point, I was surprised by the decent visual effects that looked like they came from a higher-tier production, but then there was a sequence that seemed quite cheap. Overall, however, this didn’t bother me, as you have to view the entire film as a B-movie; otherwise, it probably wouldn’t work. Samara Weaving was a pleasant surprise in a supporting role, and a few lines were amusing (sometimes with pop culture references). The ending was acceptable, with the possibility of a sequel. It was okay. I give it 60%. (03/11/2020)
