The Road Warrior

Bigger, better... Crazier. The second Mad Max is a great spectacle, action packed from start to finish, full of deranged characters, dusty, hot and uncompromising just like the post-apocalyptic landscape in which it is set. The action doesn't lack ideas, style or surprises, Mel Gibson is excellent, so what more could you ask for? It's a shame that it didn't quite work in the third film. (05/29/2015)

The Road Warrior is a film I have seen many times and still enjoy. An action-packed post-apocalyptic blast and one of the top 5 action films of my childhood up there with RoboCop, Terminator, Alien, and Raiders of the Lost Ark. Among other things, the film contains great costumes and technology, but above all, it manages to draw me into the plot and doesn’t let go for a second. (06/25/2016)

The revenge movie model was swapped for a story set in a post-apocalyptic world where gasoline is the most crucial commodity because without it, traveling through the barren landscape becomes exceedingly difficult. The roads here are blocked by various scoundrels, but also by people who simply want to survive. One of them is Max, who sought revenge but did not give up on life. This time, however, he must confront more scoundrels and help people defend their gasoline source. At times, it's absolutely iconic - the boy with the boomerang is perfect. At other times, it's quite ordinary, but you have to consider that the film is 33 years old and still aging. The environment will constantly feel incredibly desolate to you at every moment, and that is definitely a welcome effect. (03/05/2014)

A perfect action sci-fi just how I like them. The prolog is amazing (it beats most that you might see these days), a summary of all the important events in part one along with some glimpses of wars that caused the final ruin of civilization as we know it. Straight afterwards, we are treated to a great car chase with breathtaking stunts. We get to meet Max, who is looking for gas (like everybody else). He’s lucky. There’s a colony nearby with its own oil well. But nothing is for free... (06/23/2006)

Desert, cars, trucks, petrol, blokes dressed badass… all things I don’t like, but I still I expected some decent entertainment from the cult Mad Max, a film that set the slightly clichéd template for pretty much every post-apocalyptic film. I didn’t get it, unfortunately. I acknowledge it as a strong source of inspiration, but otherwise, it’s weak, very weak. (07/18/2011)
