Seven years after the end of the Second World War a controversial decision is made at Fredenslund Hospital: for the first time in Danish history, men are allowed to apply for the nursing education. A decision that comes with divided opinions. The scriptwriters Claudia Boderke and Lars Mering portray the young, former soldier Erik and the young upper-class woman Anna, who together with the other students take to battle against the prejudices of the time and its antiquated conventions, upheld by the hospital’s old guard. Driven by a captivating momentum, romantic intrigues and era-specific details, The New Nurses deals with a piece of Nordic contemporary history, relevant even today. (Göteborg Film Festival)
