This parody of Cecil B. De Mille's Carmen by Chaplin was re-cut by Essanay and Chaplin later sued them for it. Charlie plays 'Darn Hosiery', a Spanish officer, who is seduced by the gypsy girl Carmen, leading to disgrace and downfall. Scenes from a sub plot with Ben Turpin and the gypsy band are cut in to the film and he and Charlie never meet. (official distributor synopsis)
