I don't know whose idea it was to introduce Kevin Hart into a relatively serious topic. It's true that his wildly naive approach to acting somewhat diluted it. Nevertheless, what is a currency in his case in the film is also the reason why I eventually gave Fatherhood three stars. It is exactly the kind of comedic drama you expect on a relatively strong topic. Nothing more, nothing less.
