Fabrice du Welz, with his unique and recognizable style, delivers a film that immerses you in the almost fairytale-like atmosphere of the misty Ardennes forests and captivating landscapes. Unlike his earlier work like Calvaire, this film steers clear of any grotesque elements, focusing instead on a natural and compelling drama with an emphasis on the psychological study of the central relationship. Adoration is the story of a lonely boy who falls head over heels in love with a girl from a psychiatric hospital, without knowing or even imagining how close he is to the ensuing tragic events. This twisted romantic drama about escaping from reality to the bosom of nature, about a youthful adventure doomed to failure from the beginning, and the dangers in impetuously blindly following something, flows at a very slow poetic pace that seems never-ending.
