One show in television history, more than any other, defines the standards of contemporary American entertainment today: The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.
After an introduction by Groucho Marx, Johnny stepped through the curtain and onto the stage for the first time in 1962. Broadcasting from studio 6-B in New York City, Johnny infused his late night program with a sparkle of showbiz mixed with boyish charm and a razor sharp wit that never missed. On any given night there was a sense that anything could happen... and with Johnny's band of mischief makers, it usually did.
Johnny's easy going interview style and a mastery of the nightly monologue gave an audience of 12 million fans reason enough to tune in every night. The critically acclaimed show featured career defining performances, legendary hijinks and classic routines from the world's funniest comedians. From the 60's into the 90's The Tonight Show welcomed a parade of Hollywood royalty and some of the most entertaining and influential people of the 20th century.
