Tram driver Marie has far too much to do after her shift is over. But she likes to do it all since she loves her husband Václav sincerely. One day she spots him on the Lesser Town Square in Prague, kissing an attractive blonde good-bye. It seems to Marie that her small comfortable world has collapsed and she walks out of the tram in tears. But her sadness does not last long. She wipes off the tears and begins to act. She withdraws all the money from their savings books and buys off all the latest models from the Fashion Works. The visit to the beauty salon then completes her transformation into a lady. Václav is furious when he finds out that all the savings are gone. Marie silences his reproaches by listing all the housework for which he would otherwise have to pay. Václav gets drunk at a business evening party and Marie drives him to his lover Kateřina. There, she is introduced to Kateřina's husband, the boxer Béďa, who immediately falls in love with Marie and begins to date her. Václav and Kateřina are jealous, they both want their ex-partners back. Marie is busy refusing admirers and Václav decides to fight for her. He even competes with Béďa in a boxing match, but Béďa quickly knocks him down. At that moment, Marie interferes, puts Václav on his legs and raises his arm as a sign that he is the winner. The public cheers, the motor-horns hoot. - Marie again stands on Lesser Town Square in a shapeless tram driver's uniform. Without a word, she gets back to her work. (official distributor synopsis)
