English As a light horror flick that can be played to first grade elementary school kids to introduce them to the genre, it’s alright. But even within this category there are pieces that are more playful, fun and interesting for adult audiences. There's, however, one thing I'll probably remember the film for, it’s a new winner in the category of the most stupid place to hide when escaping a killer in a movie: a stalactite cave. ()

English I must have been in a mellow mood because I ended up watching a string of family films on Netflix, and I have to admit, The Scary House wasn’t bad at all. The Austrians did a great job capturing the beautiful alpine setting, weaving in unsolved murders from the past, and adding a touch of kid-friendly adventure with a few jabs at the Germans—gotta love those European tensions in films. Plus, the characters were all pretty likable, so what’s not to enjoy? A solid three-star experience. ()
