Texas Chainsaw Massacre

With its unfortunate casting and below-average screenplay, this attempt at a direct sequel to the original (after many years) has only one memorable scene – the bloody slaughter on a bus. That seemed to be the screenwriters’ initial idea, around which they then came up with the rest of the dead-weight plot. In terms of directing, it would definitely have been helped by a better atmosphere of the location and more interesting characters, but that didn’t happen. And the grandmother, who, as the only survivor from the first film, wants revenge for the trauma of her youth, is almost laughable. (03/06/2022)

I have a feeling that the Texas Chainsaw Massacre is such a generational film. Personally, the one from the turn of the millennium knocked me down, maybe young people will be interested in this version. But generally it's totally about nothing. A few gore elements, but otherwise nothing that would make it a better experience than any other movie. (02/23/2022)

I'm not a particularly big fan of the original film, but I've probably become a fan of this one. Yes, they copied as much as they could from the new Halloween, but the result is not at all bad and the only weakness I see is that Olwen Fouéré is simply not Jamie Lee Curtis. In short, it's a more than solid, uncompromising film that offers a lot of great genre scenes even before the chainsaw roars for the first time and before something SO big happens on the bus that the "carnage" in the title isn't an exaggeration. Even though the film simply follows the beaten path, it’s a great ride. And that ending, my God, that ending! (02/18/2022)

It's definitely not as bad as the majority of reviews suggest, but don’t expect a miracle. Compared to the original, it doesn’t offer anything new; it mainly sticks to familiar paths and doesn’t strive for innovation. Yes, I agree that the characters are quite annoying, and there are times when you might even find yourself sympathizing with the villain (though probably not :D). On the plus side, the film quickly dives into the brutal massacre. It doesn’t shy away from the gore and features some technically impressive scenes (the fight with the mechanic was amazing—I could hardly breathe... and of course, the legendary bus scene). The music also adds value. It’s a bit disappointing what they did with the surviving heroine from the first installment; her character was poorly developed, which is frustrating, I won’t lie. The ending is over-the-top, but at least we can look forward to a direct sequel. It’s a film where you shouldn’t overthink things. If you approach it that way, you’ll have fun. For me, it’s 6/10. A desperate attempt to update a cult classic, where I find it somewhat comforting that it could have turned out even worse. There's some pretty cool carnage in places, but the overall lack of imagination leaves you with the impression of a dull and uninventive copy of the original film, with only a casting change and the addition of cell phones. And the occasional tension of the atmosphere doesn't really save it, unfortunately. [50%] (02/19/2022)
