An excellent example of capturing the realism of Italy during the Second World War. At times, one wonders how this could have been filmed in fascist Italy at all, because it does not paint a pretty picture of a strong country. On the contrary, it portrays the country as weak, and the characters that appear are equally weak. This leads to them becoming victims of their own weakness. ()
