It is 1956. The Algerian Fernand and the Polish Helene, who are fleeing a communist-ruled Poland, meet in France and fall madly in love, despite the political differences. They travel to Algeria, while the country is a French colony. The revolution is underway. Fernand is an activist fighting for independence with the Algerians and is arrested for a bombing attempt. Helene fights for Fernand’s life. This gripping film is based on the story of Fernard Iverton and gives a historical look at Algeria and the French’s time in that country. This tear-jerking flick balances politics and love in an outstanding way. (The Norwegian International Film Festival)
