English Francis Lawrence clearly has a soft spot for fantasy worlds, and I have to say, I'm grateful for it. Slumberland is a lovely film. It's not groundbreaking, but within the genre, it's definitely a solid piece. The dreamlike fantasy setting isn't always fully realized, though it offers some beautiful moments. The movie starts off traditionally with a family tragedy, which instantly makes you connect emotionally with the main characters. I had to warm up to Jason Momoa's character and Chris O'Dowd, who once again plays one of his seemingly mundane roles. Watching this, you can't help but miss the days when Jack Sparrow would appear on screen, and everyone knew exactly who owned the film. Things are more complicated now, but as I said, I'm happy to see any good fantasy film. ()
